About the Artist

My inspiration comes from the beauty of the human race.  Every day we see interesting expressions flit across people’s faces, whether they are speaking, telling a story, or reacting to something.

I greatly admire Johannes Vermeer’s work. The realistic imagery, the story his paintings tell, and his outstanding mastery of light and shadow are unequaled.  I too have a passion for creating realistic images that tell a story.

Every person has a unique essence which I strive to capture on canvas. I want to achieve that certain look in someone’s eye or the elusive, fleeting expression that captivates me, as well as the dramatic play of light and shadow, all of which creates a dynamic and enduring piece of art for the owners to delight in and cherish for the rest of their lives.

I am a portrait artist who has studied with master portraitist DK Richardson over a three year period. In my brief tenure as a pastel painter, I have won several awards including First in Show for “Kathryn Holter Self-Portrait;” Best in Show, People’s Choice, and a Merit Award for “Commanding Presence;” Second Place for “The Flow of Time,” and Third in Show for “My Adorable Ari.”

Originally from Michigan, I relocated to Texas over 45 years ago.  After raising a family, I lived in Costa Rica for four years.  With the decision made to return to the States, I settled just outside of Austin and currently reside in College Station.
